RSV – very common virus that leads to mild, cold-like symptoms in adults and older healthy children. It can be more serious in young babies, especially to those in certain high-risk groups AKA the devil. This description does not even begin to explain what my poor baby girl has been through in the last 5 days. Breathing difficulty, coughing until she throws up, fever, diarrhea, and thats just the beginning of it. Kennedy was diagnosed on Wednesday. I took her in to the doctor because on Tuesday I heard a couple (yes just like 2) coughs that sounds funky. I had such a busy week I decided I didn’t have time for an ear infection and brought her in to the doctor. They swabbed her nose for to test for RSV. I thought they were just wasting my money. Seriously? RSV? She didn’t have trouble breathing. She didn’t have a bad cough. RSV is what put babies in the hospital. 15 seconds later (this test usually takes 20 minutes to come back positive) Kennedy was getting hooked up to her first breathing treatment. The doctor sent us home and told us that it peeks at day 5. We were sitting at day 2. Wednesday and Thursday weren’t great, but she did OK. Her temperature stayed around 101. Friday she hit rock bottom. She wouldn’t eat. She wouldn’t drink. She was lethargic and burning up all day. Saturday we could tell she was feeling better. Today she went to day care and felt fine. She still has a horrible cough that is lingering about and she still won’t eat. She only will nurse. No milk in a bottle. No milk in a sippy cup. Not solid foods. Just boob. I know she has lost some weight. I’m just hoping she will start eating again soon!
